Teachings of the Prophet Lorenzo Snow: New Series.

Hey all this post is just to introduce you to a new series that will be taking pretty much all year on this blog. Often people who do this ministry get criticized for just quoting from Old Mormon Sources that can be seen as out of date, rather than dealing with the up to date teachings of the Mormon Church.

With that in mind we will be going chapter by chapter through the 2013 Mormon Teaching Manual that is The Teachings of the Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow. I think this will be a great way of looking from an evangelical Christian perspective, what members of the LDS Church are going through today, and what should represent generally accepted Mormon Belief, however in reality there are quite few set systematic beliefs that are held by all Mormons, for example whether God was once a man or not, and if so was He once a sinner? Is something that you will find a mass of different views on from Mormons.

Lorenzo Snow should be a particularly interesting Mormon Prophet to hear from as the classic line “As man now is God once was, as God is many may become” came as a revelation from Him. Often Mormons say that this is out of date and no longer accepted in the Mormon Church, this book should bring some interesting additions to that discussion.

As well as this we will be looking at the ensign magazine every month and putting some thoughts out on that, and plan to review every session of general conference every six months. So its going to be a busy year, please pray for what we are doing and please leave any comments you like.

There is now a small number of us involved with this ministry, but if you are a Christian who feels you would like to get involved with what we are doing, please email me on [email protected] as there is a lot more to come and a we need a lot of help.

  1. This should be very good.I think there will be a lot to learn here. Can’t wait.

  2. I would like to see your documentation on Pres. Snow’s couplet being revelation. As far as I know, it was something he said but it has never been presented to the Church as doctrine or scripture.

  3. Marvin, surely if a PROPHET of GOD, called by GOD to pass on revealed knowledge and continual revelation, speaks on the NATURE of GOD how this NOT BE REVELATION?
Especially when it recorded in the “Standard Work” Journal of Discourses 26:368

    • H Lions, I did not ask for reasoning but evidence that it was an accepted revelation and part of the doctrine of the Church. So far, you have not provided any evidence.

And now you have made another claim and I again ask for evidence to support your claim that the Journal of Dicourses is part of the “Standard Work”. You and your friends seem to be quite good at making claims but when asked for evidence to back up these claims, you are sadly lacking. I await your evidence.

  4. Joseph Smith taught: “It is the first principle of the Gospel to know for a certainty the Character of God. … He was once a man like us; … God himself, the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth, the same as Jesus Christ himself did” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, sel. Joseph Fielding Smith [1976], 345–46).

This is from Gospel Principles chapter 47 and can be found here:

The principle of God being a man like us and the possibility of us becoming gods is clearly taught in this chapter and is therefore clearly accepted as doctrine in the LDS church.
